Rask gets shutout as Bruins blank Blackhawks 2-0

The first game of the series in Boston, the home team takes it. Making this their second straight win and the first game of the series won in regulation.

The story of the game was not that Rask got a shutout, it was that Chicago Blackhawk Marian Hossa was injured in warm up and was unable to play in the game. He is now listed as day-to-day.

The next game is the 19th playoff game in Boston this year. Will the Bruins take a commanding lead or will the Blackhawks tie the series?

Rumour Mill Monday!

A rumour has been traveling around about the Toronto Maple Leafs, if you haven’t heard it, here it is:

The Leafs have offered the Tampa Bay Lightning two 2nd-3rd line players and a collection of picks for Vincent Lecavalier and their 1st round pick, 3rd overall. This deal makes sense since the Lightning have been trying to get rid of Lecavalier’s contract for a while now, but they can’t buy him out since the franchise doesn’t have the money to do it. He will make $10 million until the 15/16 season, then make $8.5 in the following season and $4 in the next season and so on until he makes only $1 million in the final year of his contract in the 19/20 season. The Leafs have enough cap room right now to take on the contract and are in desperate need of a true number one centre and they also have the funds to buy him out. Not forgetting the 3rd overall pick, the Leafs could get a NHL ready prospect in either Nathan MacKinnon, Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Drouin.

Jonathan Bernier:

Bernier is going to be a RFA and the Kings don’t want to commit too much money to him since Quick has the starting job on lock. He is untested but has the potential to be a number one goalie, especially if he is mentored by future hall of famer Brodeur. Look for him to be traded at the draft to either New Jersey, Edmonton, and if Bryzgalov is bought out Philadelphia would be a front runner.

Valtteri Filppula

The Detroit Red Wings veteran has been linked to certain teams around the league, with Colombus front running the group. However, playing his whole career in Detroit, and since the Wings are good at keeping their stars I don’t see him moving.

With Alain Vigneault coming into New York as the next head coach, there could be a lot of change. With Clowe being one of the people on the way out. I am hearing Detroit, Phoenix and New Jersey are going after him. Unless New Jersey loses Clarkson, I highly doubt they will make a strong push for him.

Brad Richards

Richards could be on his way back to Dallas, or heading to Philadelphia or Nashville. Since I don’t think Richards will be bought out by the Rangers, this is up in the air. But the team that is closest to the cup who is missing a key player is Nashville, so watch for them to make a move for him.

Danny Green beats Ray Allen’s record as Spurs beat the Heat

The Spurs came out strong in the 1st quarter outscoring the Heat 32-19. They would end up winning the game 114-104 to take the series lead at 3-2.

Ginobili broke out of a slump in a big way with 24 points and 10 assists in his first start of the season.

To top it off, Green set a new NBA Finals record with 23 made three-point FG. The record was set by Ray Allen in 2008 when he was a Celtic. Green now has some time to bolster that record having at least one more game to go.

Lebron had 25 points, along with Wade. But was held to only 1 point in the fourth quarter. Lebron has to do what he did against the Pacers in the last series where he puts the team on his back and carries them to a game 7. The Spurs, like they did 4 years ago, are shutting down Lebron and playing very good defense.

Who do you think will take game 6? Will the Heat be able to hold on for one more game or will the Spurs take the championship?

An enterprising staffer in the Mets’ marketing and communications department took notice, and on Friday morning he fired off an email to Cougar Life. Maybe the cougars could mobilize to put Wright in the All-Star Game?

“We’d blast our New York females asking them to vote,” she tells me. “We’d do blog posts, Facebook posts, Twitter posts, and a press release to boost attention. In exchange, I wanted ballgame tickets for a giveaway and a meet-and-greet with David for a member or two. He said both were probably possible but he’d confirm.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured people, and we hope they are all ok.

Nobody was killed, but at least two dozen people were injured, fifteen were sent to hospitals and two were in serious condition.

“Chris Volz, 39, said he was sitting at the western end of the bar, about 10 feet from where the deck gave way. “Everybody’s watching the game. It sounded like a freight train, then everyone was gone. The deck went down like a V.” He said it happened in a split second and that no one had a chance to get away.”

Colorado Fires worst in history

They have evacuated roughly the size of Denver in land.

CNN reports on what is being called one of the worst fires in Colorado history. Here is more from the report that puts the fire at about five percent contained as of this writing: “The fire’s evacuation area is 93,000 acres, affecting approximately 38,000 people and 13,000 homes, and the flames are estimated to have burned through 15,700 acres…”

The Heat bounce back in game 4 against the Spurs

The big 3 showed up in a big way last night, especially Dwyane Wade. He is the 5th player in NBA Final history to have at least 30 pts, 5 rebounds & 5 steals in one game. Even his teammates were stunned calling it the “2006 Flash.”

Will the Spurs keep rolling or will Lebron and the Heat step up?

The Heat have found themselves in a bit of a pickle. They play Game 4 against the Spurs in San Antonio tonight. Being down 2-1 this leaves them in a situation that is make or break. Go down 3-1 or tie it 2-2?

The Brooklyn Nets have hired Jason Kidd as new Head Coach

In a very strange turn of events, Jason Kidd who just recently retired after playing 19 years was hired to take over the Head Coaching job for the Brooklyn Nets.

Personally, I think this is a move by the Nets to make some buzz around the organization. I don’t think it will work out in their favour, even though Kidd is a future Hall of Famer, it doesn’t qualify him as a good coach.

If you look at Wayne Gretzky and the Phoenix Coyotes a few years ago, that proves it.

Andrew Shaw gets the game winner in Triple Overtime!

The Blackhawks take the lead in the series 1-0 after a Triple Overtime thriller! Rozsival took a shot from the point which was tipped in by Shaw and past Rask.

The first game of the Stanley Cup Finals did not disappoint. The Blackhawks have now established home ice. Game 2 is in Chicago tomorrow night!

The Spurs wanted to keep their home team advantage and to take the lead in the series. They did just that, but in an un expected way.

The score was 113-77 in favour of the Spurs with Green leading the team in points with 27.

After the game, Lebron skipped the post game press conference saying “Got to get better. No excuses”

If you watched the Blue Jays/White Sox game last night, you saw this thick fog that you can barley see players threw.

The game was put on hold for a while until the fog cleared enough that they could play safely
